The visionary director behind Blade 2, Hellboy and Pans Labyrinth is working with Disney to create a fresh, scary new take on The Haunted Mansion.
This movie will featured the long rumored and feared…Hatbox Ghost. A very unhappy haunt that’s been lurking the been trapped for years, now, is finally being released on screen.
Fans are excited to see how Del Toro will reinvent the Haunted Mansion, especially after he stated; “Yes…this movie will be scary”! Sounds very exciting and I personally love it when Disney pushes the limits on itself!

Several members of the haunt community are seeking a class action lawsuit against popular haunt vendor, SpookywoodFX. SFX is the maker of popular haunt costumes that feature very detailed skins and several forms of distressing. They’ve even had costumes featured in the Disney parks!
A group of haunters are filing suit against SFX for product paid for but not received. Some of the haunters have not even had ONE phone call from the company, they simply took the money and ran!
This seems to be a growing problem in the industry and we’re sure to see more legal actions like this.
SpookywoodsFX has had no comments.
Hauntworld Magazine announced today that they be would be
ending the free subscriptions to members of the HHA. This comes as
a shock as magazine owner/editor Larry Kirchner was involved in the
creation of the Haunted House Assiciation, he says: “Hauntworld
Magazine will NO LONGER send out free magazines to people with
memberships to these organizations.” Mr. Kirchner continues to add
that, starting immediately free subscriptions have ended. No
association member will receive the pre-Transworld edition OR the
March tradeshow edition of the mag. “You must subscribe at this
point… we might in the future do something when or if something
good comes from all this or if approached about it but if you want
the information we provide you will have to get your own
subscription.” This seems very disheartening, I’m sure, to all
members of both associations and is sure to decrease the value of
joining/membership cost! No comments yet from Haunted Attraction
Magazine. Tell us what you think! More to come.
Business owners in an Australian town are decrying the loss of tourist dollars after the local government shut down its ghost tours.
So, a small debate is occurring regarding haunt attendance. Some people are saying that haunts ultra-inflate their numbers in an effort to secure bragging rights? Some are claiming that some haunts actually do 80-100K+… what do you think? Could a haunt put through roughly 100,000 people in a season? Safely? While keeping scares/quality high?
Kelly Allen, owner and operator of Raycliff Manor haunted house in Joplin, MO., was recently interviewed on how to start-up a haunted attraction.
Not a particularly informative interview, mostly just Mr. Allen picking apart the finer points of start-up, but a great read none-the-less that we suggest you take a look at.

The 2011 Transworld Hauntshow returns this year to the
America Center in St. Louis, MO. This year shows the return of the
retail only Halloween section! The haunted attraction industry has
seen it’s own show for the past few years, but this time it proves
that the retail side NEEDS the attraction side. We would love to
hear your thoughts on this! What do you think about the retail side
of the show returning? Will the attractions side be treated as
second-class citizens once more? Let us know! For more information
